Gabrielle Aplin's description on her Facebook page reads "ghostly pop/folk with hints of choirs and twinkly things. Magical" and she's not over-exaggerating. Her music contains a sweetness, a sensibility, a speciality that makes you feel you have stumbled into a fairies circle and are being whipped away in a soft candyfloss song. Gabrielle Aplin is perfect for a dreamy Summer's day, as her video for 'Never Fade' demonstrates, with her music making the forest and fields scenery seem entirely enchanting. In Aplin's range of tunes, mostly available on her two released EP's, there are undoubtable hints of the folk soaked Laura Marling, the juxtaposition sweetness and power of Kyla La Grange, the romance of The Good Natured, the Summery feel of Joy Formidable and the on-point vocals of Kate Nash. Synonymously, whilst Kate Nash was a product of the Myspace generation, gaining a record deal and a series of hit singles from her Myspace page; Gabrielle Aplin has found most of her success through her cover versions on Youtube (although she did also feature as Myspace's No 1 Unsigned Act). She has amassed over 5 million Youtube hits, with versions of Ed Sheeran's 'A Team,' Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream,' Ellie Goulding's 'The Writer' and a goosebump inducing Kings of Leon and Temper Trap mash up, demonstrating not just an impeccable talent but a broad taste in music. Gabrielle Aplin is by no means new onto the music scene, nor particularly underground, with 'Never Fade' entering the charts at number six this year, but she also probably isn't getting the attention and radio play she deserves. Her recent Maida Vale session was nothing short of magical; or perhaps even astonishing given Gabrielle is only 18 and entirely self-taught and self-made thus far. She seems so far removed from the standardised female chart toppers; appearing endearing and keen to cater and communicate with her fans on all means of social media; to such an extent she could very well be the female Ed Sheeran! Originating from Wiltshire, you can't imagine Gabrielle ever becoming another pop sex icon (despite her being gorgeous) or letting fame get the best of her. She appears ever so humble, beautiful and relatable; just like her music.
