Is there anything Sky Ferreira can't do? At only 18 her CV already reads longer than most peoples' does in a lifetime, racking up job titles from model to actress to singer to songwriter. She's appeared in a Justice video, been shot by the likes of Ellen Von Unwerth and Rankin and is being heralded the modern Madonna. That's a pretty big "F' You" she's giving to everybody who bullied her in high school. With her messy blonde waves, hipster fashion sense and infectious pop/dance crossover records Sky Ferreira has become almost as big an internet sensation as Alexa Chung; perhaps emphasised by her front cover appearance in the recent reality issue of Wonderland magazine. In fact, you can't mention her name without another celebrity creeping into the sentence: from Michael Jackson (did she make him cry just by singing to him?), to Katy Perry (are they best friends?), to Britney Spears (so are they recording a song together?). There are all sorts of crazy rumours about Sky Ferreira on the internet, probably not hindered by her own provocative blog titles such as 'Making Sweet Love To Pete Doherty On A Friday Night.' But the reality behind all these rumours is possibly even more impressive. Sky is a classically trained teenager who rose to fame through Myspace where her huge voice malleable enough to be lent to a whole host of genres piqued worldwide interest. She gained the attention of Swedish producers Bloodshy & Avant after messaging them herself and has appeared in a number of designer ad campaigns from Calvin Klein to Tommy Hilfiger. Born in LA, Sky Ferreira has been called America's answer to Lily Allen, certainly the lyrical comparisons are easy to see, whilst in looks Ferreira channels Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen with all their long blonde hair, headline grabbing outfits and consistent trendsetting. In terms of music Sky Ferreira bursts into the electropop scene with a showcase of talent much more extensive than peers such as Florrie and Kesha; possibly because of her own documented appreciation of music. Spotted at Coachella this year Sky has confessed her love for the likes of synth high electropop bands such as MGMT and Bloc Party, whilst her back catalogue of covers and samples features the likes of Dr Dre, Stevie Nicks and Miike Snow. Her voice is powerful, resonating and evocative. The perfect balance between dreaminess and disco. Through her songs Sky Ferreira travels a number of eras and genres whilst her lyrics remain hard hitting and entirely up-to-date with references to sex and the internet thrown around nonchalantly. Sky Ferreira has been in public awareness for several years now yet her debut album continues to be postponed, however it is clear she has all the winning formula to be a huge success. In fact referring to Sky Ferreira as the female Justin Bieber may not be such a ridiculous statement after all. Wow, do I feel unaccomplished now!
