When you say the name Alex Winston not many may know exactly who she is. However, after playing a few chords of Choice Notes her lyrical voice will be instantaneously recognisable to many. As Choice Notes has been an incessant hit amongst big brand advertisers, becoming the soundtrack of TV campaigns for the likes of Hyundai and TK Maxx. Originating from Detroit but with many of her songs recorded in a New York basement; Alex Winston has hit the UK with sessions for Rob da Bank, appearances on the Guardian and BBC websites and a forthcoming tour in June. Her songs are light and breezy, her lyrics catchy and her voice unusual and possessing some of that Kate Bush pizazz. She has that Kate Nash, Lykke Li alternative feel to her in that you want to dance to her songs at a festival covered in mud, flowers in hair and shandy in hand. She's certainly become a remix of choice for many DJ's with Starslinger, Labyrinth and Jaybird all knocking up remixes of her tracks, which can only be a good thing! She also has a plethora of beautiful covers under her belt, such as Mumford & Sons, Rolling Stones and Teddy Bears demonstrating her individual style and eclecticism. Plus her E.P artwork so far has been one beautiful illustration after another, and just when you couldn't love her any more - Winston has the most beautiful hair ever! Thick dark waves. Swoon!
